Mass flow scoring direct and indirect two kinds. Direct mass flowmeter uses the principle directly related to the mass flow rate to measure, only the thermal mass flowmeter and Coriolis force mass flowmeter are really widely used in commercial applications. Indirect mass flowmeters are most popular with pressure and temperature compensation.
1. Hot mass flowmeter (constant temperature difference TMF)
Advantages of thermal mass flowmeter:
(1) Ball valve installation, easy installation and disassembly, and can be installed with pressure.
(2) The measured value is not affected by pressure and temperature.
(3) Rapid response.
Disadvantages of thermal mass flowmeter:
(1) Accuracy is less than other types of flowmeters, generally 3%.
(2) Narrow scope of application, can only be used for measuring dry non-explosive gases, such as compressed air, nitrogen, argon and other neutral gases.
2. Coriolis Mass Flowmeter (MFU)
Coriolis mass flowmeter is a direct mass flowmeter which is made by using the Coriolis force principle which is proportional to the mass flow when the fluid flows in the vibrating tube.
Advantages of Coriolis mass flowmeter:
(1) Direct measurement of mass flow rate, high accuracy.
(2) The measured value is not affected by physical properties (density and viscosity).
(3) No front and back straight pipe section requirements.
(4) Can measure a variety of non-Newtonian fluids and viscous and particulate slurry.
Disadvantages of Coriolis mass flowmeter:
(1) Large weight volume and expensive price.
(2) zero point instability.
(3) Limited to small and medium caliber.
